Aoife Dillon is an Irish contemporary painter based in Dublin whose practice explores inner landscapes as a response to the fragmentation and distraction of modern life. Working intuitively with layered paint on unprimed canvas, she creates luminous, atmospheric compositions that examine emotional transformation, stillness, and the relationship between the inner self and the natural world.
Rather than depicting physical places, Dillon uses landscape and the cosmos as metaphors for psychological experience. Dillon's work has received growing international recognition. In 2021, her painting Motherland was showcased at Tate Britain as part of the promotion for the Life Between Islands exhibition. She was featured in the Irish Arts Review in 2022 and most recently exhibited at Copper House Gallery in Dublin. She has also completed artist residencies at Can Serrat in Barcelona and the Unruly Collective in New York, while organizing independent curatorial projects, including the group exhibition The Lost Land in Dublin.

"My painting practice responds to the fragmentation and distraction of contemporary life, where constant acceleration erodes attention and access to intuition. Through painting, I explore how sustained perception and slowness can restore coherence and allow inner terrain to emerge.
Using landscape and the cosmos as metaphor, I create terrains of emotion and psyche rather than depictions of place. Mountains, horizons, light, and celestial forms serve as indicators of psychological and emotional states, reflecting processes of transformation, stillness, and alignment.
Painting operates as both process and inquiry. I work intuitively, allowing subconscious decision-making to guide the development of each work. Unplanned marks introduce uncertainty and require adaptive responses, mirroring processes of personal growth and behavioural navigation. Layering becomes both material strategy and conceptual device, revealing the gradual uncovering of internal landscapes.
